Its Past

Dear Friends!!

From the days of its inception in 1926, the Sevashrama has been famous for Homoeopathy treatment. The founder Secretary, Swami Ritanandaji Maharaj, a disciple of Swami Brahmanandaji Maharaj (Raja Maharaj), was himself a good homoeopath doctor and had a team of homoeopath doctor inmates in the Ashrama. The Ashrama is proud of carrying on this tradition even to this date.

The Sevashrama is famous for its Eye Hospital in Muzaffarpur and nearby Districts. The foundation of Eye Infirmary (with 20 beds) was laid by the British Governor of Bihar, Lord Rutherford in 1947 and it was formally inaugurated by the 1st Governor of Bihar Mr. M.S. Ane In 1948. This Eye Hospital was first of its kind in entire North Bihar. Presently the Ashrama has Homoeopathy (3 units), Allopathy, Dental, Eye-Surgery, X-Ray and Pathology deptts. where every day about 200 patients are treated and operated free of cost/ with nominal charges. It has in 2005 its own Eye Operation Theatre equipped with modern ophthalmic instruments. This was made by Infosys Foundation, Bangalore.

The Sevashrama opened in 1956 an art and craft centre where professional teachers trained women in tailoring, knitting, embroidery, fabric painting etc. for their development. The Ashrama also ran a primary school and a library for public. These activities, however could not be continued owing to shortage of funds.
